Thailand Conservation Project Moves to the Beach!
Conservation Director, Ingrid Sprake, tells us about the new volunteer accommodation on the Conservation Project:
‘On 1st October we spent our first night at our new home, an eco-resort called The Dawn of Happiness situated on Ao Nammao beach about 5km East of Ao Nang and 15km South of Krabi Town.
The eco-resort is set amidst a lush tropical garden, with an abundance of coconut trees, wild orchids, exotic indigenous flowers and large palms. Nature trails lead through the jungle, whilst paths lead the way to the on site restaurant, volunteer rooms and the beach.
The volunteer accommodation comprises of 6 rustic and traditional bamboo bungalows surrounding a private, large circular sala (a covered decked area) and two larger dorm rooms next to the Conservation Team’s office, opposite a small creek that flows into the ocean.
The clubhouse sits amongst the coconut trees next to the creek and houses our resource area, schedule boards, TV, dvd player and two computers.
The restaurant is on the beach front and serves up delicious Thai and Western food. It’s a great place to chill out, watch the ocean and play a game of cards.
The volunteers and the conservation team are feeling very happy to be based within such an inspirational and naturally beautiful environment and one thing is for sure, with us around, Ao Nammao will have the cleanest beach in the whole of the Krabi Province!’
