Journalism volunteers needed in Bolivia

Back in June a Projects Abroad teaching volunteer, Scott Liddle, began a small newspaper with his students from the Linguistics Department at the Universidad Mayor de San Simon while on placement in Cochabamba. The newspaper he designed, the Cocha-Banner, was a mixture of short stories, poetry, letters and reviews. What began as a University project has now turned into an ongoing monthly publication run by volunteers and staff from Projects Abroad.

The Director of Projects Abroad - Bolivia, Daniela Viljoen told us: 'What makes The Cocha-Banner special is that it is not only written by native English speakers, but also by local Cochabambinos, who are eager to publish some of their own work. It is the only cultural and informative paper of its kind in Bolivia passed around cafés, pubs, restaurants and schools.written entirely in English!

As a volunteer working on our Journalism Project, you will be involved in many different aspects of print journalism such as advertising, writing and editing articles, distribution, promoting, designing layout and much more. Projects Abroad volunteers will also have the opportunity to work alongside local reporters at Los Tiempos, the biggest newspaper in Cochabamba. This provides every volunteer with a unique experience of freelance reporting.

Volunteers interested in photography and design, are also welcome to join our project.
